The outdoor space in our home is the weakest link, which we knew when we bought this home. We live close to the beach (very close) so we didn’t think it was a huge deal to not have a very big yard, but now with being quarantined and the uncertainty about whether the beaches will even be opened this summer, we’re preparing ourselves. It’s tough having a super active toddler, and not much space outside! Our phase-2 of our renovation from last year was always to redo the outside of our home, which included our yard (adding sprinklers and ripping it out and replacing the current grass situation), building a wrap-around deck into our side year, fencing our property and reworking our entryway to our home. We basically want to up the curb appeal for our home. Because of the uncertainty of coronavirus, we decided to push phase-2 until next summer, but we have a nice back area that doesn’t see much sunlight that we decided to finish, so we can play back there with the kids this summer.
If you’ve been following for a few years, you may remember this DIY renovation from 2018. The furniture and the space are both still extremely useable, and we love to have summer dinners out there. The space behind it to the left is the next area that we plan to rework. It isn’t huge, but it’s big enough to fit some lawn furniture and some kids toys! Because it doesn’t see much sunlight, the grass has been sitting in disrepair for the past few years, and we’ve just kind of been glossing over it because Hudson was not walking two summers ago, and last summer we were living at a different home while we renovated. It never effected us that it wasn’t completed back there, but now Hudson wants to hangout and play with his water table and his trampoline, and every time we go back there we track tons of mud into the house. We decided that because of the lack of sunlight, fake grass is the way to go. It’s only a 300-square-foot patch, and we’ve already booked our install date in a few weeks! In the meantime, I have been planning out the space, and how I hope for it to look by mid June, so we can enjoy it as the weather gets warm! I wanted to share my inspiration for the space, along with some links to pieces I think I’ll put in the space in the next month (nothing is set in stone!) and make sure to check Stories for updates on the space!
My goal for the space is to make it very kid-friendly, but still stylish.
I can’t wait to share the reveal post in a month or so! Stay tuned!
