What I Put On My Baby Registry (For First Time Moms Too!)

I actually cannot remember if I ever created a post about my baby registry when I had Hudson, but it felt like this one was long overdue. I’m not going to lie, it took a LONG time to piece together everything we bought for the baby (along with a lot of things we previously owned) but this is a comprehensive list of all of it! All of these items got us through the first few months, until baby became more mobile. I hope this helps someone out there out!

For Sleep:

A sound machine: I would put this high on the list of things you definitely want to pick up. Hudson still uses his some nights! Babies live in a loud space when they’re in our bodies, and they do not like silence! I really love the Halo, because it also has a night light, which should come in handy for breastfeeding in the middle of the night!

A bassinet: I was never a fan of co-sleeping, since it scares me with its risks for SIDS, but I love having baby next to me for the first few months. With Hudson we had a bulkier crib that rocked, and this time around I wanted something a bit smaller that could swivel over the bed. I’ve heard good things about this bassinet, so we picked it up for baby 2! Don’t forget to pickup sheets and a waterproof sheet in case there’s some diaper leakage!

A crib: Granted, they won’t sleep in one for a while if they’re in the room right next to you, but I find it’s soothing to have a nursery set up before baby is born, with all of the essentials in it.

A crib mattress: This is the crib mattress we purchased when Hudson was a baby, and we will still be using it for baby 2. It worked really well for us!

Ollie swaddle: Hudson loved to be swaddled, but we learned quickly that even though babies love the swaddle, they also break out of it in the middle of the night, and then wake themselves up. lol! I have heard great things about this swaddle – it velcros the baby into the swaddle position, so they can’t bust out!

Baby Monitor: This one is probably not necessary right away, since baby will most likely be sleeping right next to you, but I liked having it installed in case I wanted to put Hudson down for a nap in his crib mid-day. This time around, I picked the Nanit monitor because I love all of the tracking capabilities it has. It seems easy to setup, and easy for travel as well! I will have to report back on it in a few months.

Waterproof mattress pad: This is one you may forget about, but it is super important. Baby WILL have leaks in the middle of the night, and it’s great to not have to wipe down the entire mattress every time it happens. I’d definitely pick up a waterproof pad, along with a few extra sets of bedding.

Binkie: Hudson took a binkie from week 1, so these were super important for us to get sleep. I loved this kind, because they’re very cute, but I’ll probably end up trying a bunch to see which ones baby #2 takes!

A rocking chair: This one may or may not be something you feel is required, but I used to love to feed Hudson in a rocker, and then rock him to sleep. I picked up this one for baby #2, and it is in a corner of our bedroom.

Receiving/ Swaddle blanket: I never let hudson sleep with his blankie, because it’s a hazard, but when he would be in the stroller or playing, we’d always have it nearby. Now he is so attached to it! I picked up two cute blankets for baby 2, and can’t wait to see him cuddle up to them as well!

For Bathing + Diapering:

Bathtub: I picked up the Blooming Bath for baby when he is super little, and cannot wait to use it for baths in the sink. When he gets a little bigger, we’re going to use the same tub we used with Hudson, this bath tub. I loved it, because he did not slip out of it. We’d place it into the bathtub, or in the sink!

Shampoo + Soap: There’s honestly so many great brands out there for baby products, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say we’ve tested most of them. I’m not a brand loyalist, and when it comes to soaps and shampoos, as long as they are tear-free, I am happy. Just make sure to have some in your home for when baby needs a bath!

Hooded Towel: These are a must-have, since baby is usually cold right after the bath. I thought this one was so cute! I had a ton of fox ones for Hudson, but am trying to give baby 2 a new theme haha!

Wash cloths: These are also important for bath time, and we’d use them regularly to clean off hudson!

Grooming Essentials: You’ll definitely want to pick up a hair brush and a nail file! I loved this file, because it doesn’t require you to clip the babies nails, you just turn it on and it files them down, without any anxiety about accidentally cutting their finger!

Changing Pad/ Changing Table: For a changing table, for both babies I just used a regular dresser. I cleared the top off, and I love how once they’re out of diapers, you can still use the piece of furniture. I really love this easy-to-wipe changing pad. I never had one with Hudson, but can remember how many times I’d have to clean off the sheet on the pad we used back then.

Diaper Pail: We picked up this Munchkin pail when we had Hudson, and I have loved it ever since. It reduces any smells, and is fairly simple to use! Make sure to also grab diaper pail refills!

Diaper cream: Baby’s skin will be sensitive, so definitely have some cream on-hand for when you get home from the hospital!

Diapers + Wipes: Hudson was immediately in a size 1 diaper. It’s hard to know what your baby’s birth weight will be, so I’d hold off on buying a ton of diapers, and just have a few on-hand until you’re home from the hospital.

Thermometer + Tylenol: We always kept both in our home, just in case, and they came in handy at times!

Changing Mat: I love how easy-to-wipe down and cute this one is!

Wipe Carrier For Diaper Bag: I never used this with Hudson, but thought it was such a smart concept! It’s annoying to have to bring the entire wipes container when we’re on the go!

Baby Gear:

Stroller: We’ve been using the UPPAbaby Vista stroller in the SPENCER print! I love it, because it converts into a double stroller, and also has the ability to add a piggyback for Hudson to stand and ride on!

Car Seat: This time around we picked up the UPPAbaby MESA carseat, since it matches with our stroller.

Bouncer: I really wanted to be mindful of the baby gear that we brought into our home, and I wanted each piece to be somewhat still. Hudson had a ton of swings that all rocked, and he seemed to become dependent on the movement. I love this bouncer, because the movement is self created by the baby!

Ergobaby 360 Carrier: I am a huge fan of baby wearing, and luckily saved this carrier from when I had Hudson! I used it until he was almost 2!

Solly baby wrap: I loved using this wrap when Hudson was a newborn. It is so soft, and offers great head support!

Play Gym: I saved this play gym from when I had Hudson, and it was perfect to lay him underneath on our bed to keep him entertained!

Snuggle Me: I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter about how great this is, so I picked one up for baby #2 so he can lay next to us on the couch, or just move from room to room!

Pacifier Clip: These saved our life when we were out at a restaurant, or walking around. We never lost the binkie!

Diaper Bag: I always love my Fawn Design bag!! It turns into a backpack as well.

Feeding:

Breast Pump

Boppy Pillow: I use this for nursing! I love how cute this cover is.

Bottle Brush: This one always did the trick!

Bottle Drying Rack: This one is very convenient to place on the counter!

Bottles

Milk Storage Bags

Burp Cloths

Bibs: These are great for feeding, or drooling! I love how cute the hanker-chief cut is!

Clothing:

Obviously for clothing, you can go as crazy as you want in picking up tons of new cute pieces for baby! These are just the very basics that I make sure to have in the house before bringing a new baby home!

Long sleeve onesies

Short sleeve onesies

Socks

No-scratch mittens

5+ Pajamas with footies

Hats

Sweaters / Layering pieces if cold

I think that is everything, and I apologize if I am forgetting something! There’s a lot of things required, but when you break it down into day-to-day use, it begins to seem a bit more manageable! My biggest tip would be to purge your closets and drawers before bringing all of this new baby gear into your home, and then find designated spots that all of it will go. For example, we have a “baby drawer” in the kitchen for bibs, bottles, etc. CONGRATULATIONS if you’re reading here because you are pregnant!!
