My Second Trimester FAQ & Must-Haves

WOW so somehow, here were are – the 2nd trimester came and went SO quickly, and I am not just saying that as a hindsight kind of thing, it truly did blow by in the blink of an eye. If you’re curious in seeing my 2nd trimester post with Hudson, you can read about it here! I think it mainly felt extra sped up because it landed on my busiest season, so most days between focusing on work deadlines and Hudson, I barely even had a chance to digest or think about this pregnancy. That’s the biggest difference between baby 1 and baby 2 – You focus way less on the fact that you’re actually pregnant. I’ve actually had moments of slight anger, where I’m struggling and I’m like “HEY IM PREGNANT REMEMBER???” but I am actually more reminding myself than those around me. It’s a weird feeling.

I am going to cover some FAQ that you all sent in on instagram, and I’ll share some of my must-haves and essentials that have gotten me through thus far! Just to cover the basics, I am 29 weeks tomorrow! This baby is SUPER active, like way more-so than Hudson was, so I feel like he’ll be a lot more physical. Hudson was always very calm, late to walk, and more of a thinker and verbalizer. I feel like baby 2 will be very opposite, just from how he seems in my belly! I’ve gained about 19 lbs so far, which is around the same, maybe a tiny bit more than I did with Hudson. I’ve been working out around 3-4 days per week, I probably exercised 5 days a week with Hudson, but also had much more free time! As of this past week, I am officially wearing mostly maternity BOTTOMS. I still size up and wear non-maternity tops, because I feel like maternity tops are not entirely a necessity, and are also SO basic! Some of my favorite memories of this pregnancy are just when Matt and I lay in bed at night and feel just how crazy this baby feels in my belly! He moves sooo much!

Your questions:

When did you feel him kick for the first time? I started to feel kicks with both this pregnancy and my last pregnancy for the first time around 18/19 weeks. They feel like little muscle spasms at first!

27.5 Weeks

Does your energy really come back in the second trimester? YES! It really does! For me, it usually comes back around 14 weeks, but it does come back. I started to feel a lot more like myself, my bloating went down, and I began to workout again. Sadly, it’s short-lived because now as I approach the last 10 weeks, I am starting to feel exhausted again.

Sleep! Do you have a preggo sleep pillow that you like? So with Hudson I bought a pregnancy pillow, and found it to be realllly big and unnecessary. Now, I sleep with a pillow between my legs, so that it also rests under my bump and gives it a little support. I sleep on my side. As I get bigger, I may eventually need to invest in one, but I haven’t had any sleep issues so far, thankfully!

What’s something you’re worried about this time around that you weren’t with the first?

I’m worried this time around about how our family dynamic will change, and how having a new baby will change my relationship with Hudson. I am more focused on Hudson than myself in many ways, and getting him to understand the change that will happen soon. I’m also trying to soak in all the last weeks of us as a family of three.

Do you have any bad days? Like days when you’re so tired or when everything annoys you? 100% yes. I think most of my bad days come on weeks when I’m not carving out time for myself – I’ve found that if I don’t eat well or exercise, I am more prone to being grumpy or moody. I also just hate the feeling of waking up in the morning and feeling like nothing fits me. It’s hard to get dressed, and getting dressed is what I love to do in life, so that’s been hard. I just make sure to ask for the time if I need it, like for example after we went into NYC this past weekend, I was exhausted, and asked Matt if he could make Hudson dinner and put him to bed so I could relax in bed for an hour or two. It helped out so much.

What are you most excited about? I am just so excited to have another squishy little baby around! I forget what it feels like to be the mom to a baby! It feels so far away, so I’m excited for all of the cuddles, and cute things babies do! I also can’t wait to see Hudson’s relationship grow with his brother!

28 weeks!

1 – These overalls have been my savior, they’re so comfy and still very stylish!

2 – I’ve been using these dresses to layer a sweater over, and they look so adorable + are super affordable!

3 – These sports bras are SO comfortable – I ordered a medium!

4 – This denim maternity dress is so cute, and can be styled so many different ways!

5 – These jersey leggings are so comfortable, and also so affordable!

6 – Out of tons and tons of pairs of denim I’ve tried on, this pair has by far been my favorite. They’re so flattering, stretchy, but stylish and they’re more mid-rise fit, so they don’t make you feel like you need to constantly be pulling up your pants. They’re well worth the money!

7 – This is the same pair of jeans in black – they fit exactly the same as the denim!

8 – I used this stuff during my first pregnancy, and had 0 stretch marks, and I use it every night this time around as well!

9 – I’ve found it tough to find skirts that are a shorter length, not pencil skirts. I personally like a more mini skirt fit, and this skirt looks so stylish with a cropped top tucked in!
