How I Stay Safe While Posting Online

A big thing that I personally think A LOT about that I don’t hear bloggers discuss too much is personal safety. It wasn’t something that really occurred to me when we lived in an apartment building, but once we moved into a house, and local followers started to approach me admitting they totally know which block I live on, it was something that always created a little bit of fear for me, especially at night. I receive lots of packages, and we travel, so I always hated the idea that people could know where I live. There is always the option to not share the front door, but I think I am too far gone, and also, because I live in a smaller town it’s a lot more obvious. I wish I could trust that people are inherently good, and I do feel like most locals who know where I live are harmless, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I discussed with Matt how I felt, and we decided to install some Ring cameras and Floodlights around the house, along with a home security system (I’ll be sharing more on that soon!), so we can record any activity on our property and see who walks up to our front door. It really has given me so much peace of mind, especially when we are out of town, or out for the day! The Ring doorbell from Home Depot is an absolute gem, and I am now a believer that there’s no reason why everyone shouldn’t install one – it notifies me who is at my door, shows me a live stream camera and notification on my phone, and allows me to record if needed. I love having the option to see if a package needs to be signed for, or if the delivery person just left it at my step, and I also love seeing who comes up to my door when we aren’t home, since it also notifies me if there is motion out front.

BUT our greatest recent installation, in my opinion, is the Ring Wi-Fi Outdoor Floodlight from Home Depot. It added an extra layer of security for me, and I love that the Floodlight automatically turns on if someone steps foot on our property. It only took about 30 minutes for our electrician to install, and we had it up and running on our Wi-fi right away! It’s such a nice deterrent to bring attention to a potential intruder. It also records sounds (which is INCREDIBLE! It is really clear too!) and you can store the video footage on Ring’s cloud storage, so that you have access to backlogged footage in case anything ever happens. I really like having the option to see who enters our property, and to be able to track motion on the sidewalk in front of our house. It’s been SUCH a game changer in my feelings of security.

Even if you aren’t a blogger, I am curious if you have cameras around your property? Let me know how you keep your home safe in the comments
