The time has ALMOST come for our BIG home renovation to begin! I am not sure if I’ve gone in to detail in a full blog post yet, but we are fully renovating the first floor of our house starting on February 25 (you can watch a full video with more details here). We’re going to be moving out for a few months (probably 3-4 months) while the renovation happens, but when we move back in everything will be SO much better. I forget what it feels like to have a dishwasher, or a closet that actually fits my things. It’s going to be so nice.
When we bought our 1954 home a little over a year ago, we went into super savings mode, and started to save up to make the layout more live-able. At first we thought we’d just renovate our kitchen, but then we found out our master bathroom needed to be redone as well, and after some discussion with our contractors (my aunt and uncle) and my dad (who is also a contractor) the job grew a lot larger than we expected, solely because of the awkward layout of the home. We also have different wood flooring in each room, so we’re going to have to rip it all up to make it all match room to room. Every piece of our first floor will be replaced, since our flooring is so old and damaged.
I want to really document this process for all of you, since I probably receive the most questions regarding home renovation, so I’ll share more on our kitchen renovation in a separate post, but wanted to start with our master bathroom! This room is completely changing location, and is going to be moving into the location of our current kitchen. We’re creating a full master suite, with a walk-in closet and a true master bathroom. I was very torn between using white on white tiles, or picking a statement tile for the floor, and we ended up picking a statement tile! I’ve linked all of the products we purchased below, in case you’re looking to renovate a bathroom as well.
One other thing worth noting, is that this is our FOREVER BATHROOM. We’ve renovated one other bathroom before, in an apartment we knew we’d eventually sell, and we picked much more inexpensive pieces, but because we envision ourselves as 65 and still using this bathroom, our tastes definitely reflect that. I am so excited to share more with you all, and will be creating weekly Youtube videos to document the process, so make sure to subscribe on there as well!
We’ve ordered all of this product now, and the first step to our renovation beginning is (obviously) moving out, and then our contractors will begin demolition, where they remove all of the flooring, walls and current kitchen. If you have any questions about anything regarding renovating, please let me know in the comments and I will answer!
