To celebrate my birthday this past weekend (hello 31!) we headed to upstate NY for a stay at the adorable Glen Wilde! It’s a Catskills bungalow colony from the 1940s that was modernized, and the 8 adorable bungalows are all open for rental! We stayed in the quaint bungalow 01, and enjoyed the fresh air, the cute cat named Ben on the property that Hudson was obsessed with and we were able to stop in to a ton of fun local spots! I am going to share our itinerary with you, in case you’re looking for a little weekend getaway as well. Our favorite part about The Glen Wilde is how child friendly it is – there were tons of other kids staying there as well, and we were able to put Hudson to sleep and still hangout by the bonfire.
What we brought:
Before we left, we made sure to bring along some outdoor toys for Hudson like buckets and pails and a ball. The property has a ton of grass, so he had a great time playing outside. We also stopped and picked up some groceries for the weekend (we never go anywhere without coffee), and we brought along charcoal for the grill. Other than that, they supply a french press, and everything you might need for cooking such as plates and utensils!
Places to go:
Kelder’s Farm / U-pick: This place was AMAZING. Not only did they have a little petting zoo for Hudson and ice cream, but they have the best U-Pick Matt and I have ever been to. They had virtually every single vegetable you can imagine – blueberries, raspberries, carrots, lettuce, onions. We were having a field day, and Hudson loves picking fruit!
Sam’s Point Hike: This was the perfect hike for us, because a lot of the hike is on a path, so you can even (possibly) bring a stroller. We ended up venturing through the ice caves which was SO COOL but a little scary for Hudson. We had to be so careful about not bumping his head, since some areas were very narrow, and he was very freaked out in the dark caves, but all-in-all we feel it was worth the experience, and the caves were INCREDIBLE. If you opt not to hike through the caves, you can still complete a good 1-2 hour hike on predictable paths that are very child friendly. We use the Poco AG carrier, for anyone who has messaged on instagram about it!
Swimming Holes : There’s a lot of options for swimming holes within 30-40 minutes from The Glen Wilde – we opted to try out one thats a bit off the beaten path that was much closer by. It ended up being a bit to rough for Hudson and I, but Matt had a nice dip! The swimming hole we went to is off coordinates 41.682133, -74.522630 – The entrance to the swimming hole is directly across from a 30 mph sign on Mountaindale/Spring Glen Road. It’s very random, but we figured we’d give it a try. A few other swimming holes close by are stony kill falls, split rock hole and peekamoose blue hole. I’ve been to blue hole and it was absolutely beautiful!
Farmer’s Markets: We didn’t get a chance to go, but there’s The Rock Hill Farmers Market is 10a.m. – 1 p.m. every Saturday and is about a 15 min drive from The Glen Wilde and The Callicoon Farmers Market is on Sunday mornings 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. right along the Delaware River.
Where We Ate:
Westwind Orchard: The pizza here was INCREDIBLE, and there was a ton of room for Hudson to run around and play while we ate! The grounds are beautiful, and it’s a must-see. Matt said it was his favorite part of the trip!
Pickled Owl: We had lunch here on our way in to The Glen Wilde, and it was delicious! It is supposedly super busy in the evenings, so we’d recommend it as a lunch spot!
Aroma Thyme: We really enjoyed the farm-to-table food here, and Ellenville is one of the largest towns near The Glen Wilde to walk around in. It is still VERY small, but it has a quaint feeling, and is great to stop into for a few hours!
There you have it, our full weekend itinerary! We really loved this trip, and plan to go back with some friends in the near future!
