Before + After: How I Transformed Dead Space Into A Coffee Bar!

I am sure we each have a space in our house that exists, but rarely gets used. It’s usually a corner, or a nook that we just cannot figure out what to do with, or that ends up storing older furniture we’re not enthused about. This was that corner for me. It housed an IKEA bookshelf that collected dust at my last apartment, but we brought along in the move out of fear that we wouldn’t have enough furniture to fill an entire home. The movers placed it in this corner, I unpacked our decor onto it, and it never budged. I would glare at it every day and wish it looked different, but had no clue what to do with the space. It’s right off of our living room, so creating a sitting area wouldn’t make much sense. I almost transformed it into a large record storage/ listening corner, but then Matt mentioned a bar. I didn’t love the idea of making it a BAR bar, but when I thought about how much coffee we consume, I thought a coffee bar made perfect sense!

Our kitchen is actually pretty far from our dining room + living room. The layout of the house is backwards, so when we have guests over we have to carry their coffee down a long hallway. This allows us to make coffee for everyone right near the dining room!

To begin, I found this adorable Linette Bar that was very affordable, but also somewhat fit the look I had in mind. I loved that the bar had storage, and also was not HUGE since the space wasn’t too big. Instantly I felt like it was much too brown, and knew I had to paint it. I used the same paint from my kitchen remodel, and decided to leave the bar top its natural color.

To me, the space really came together when I added in this rug, and the adorable open shelving. It truly is incredible what a days worth of work and planning can do for a space! We now use this space and feel like it’s an integral part of our home!
