As you may or may not know, I am working together with West Elm on a sister series, sharing a room reveal per month as we slowly renovate our new home. You can read about each room, and the process behind the design of each space over on their blog, but in case you missed their post I wanted to add the images on my own blog as well! If you remember correctly, we used to have an orange couch in our old home. When we moved, we felt that our old furniture just didn’t fit correctly in our new living room space. The old couch was from when we lived in an apartment, and now that we’re in a house it felt like it was too short for the wall it would be placed against. We also had been collecting pieces home by home, and never really sat down and planned out a cohesive living room space – We had a mid-century couch, an industrial table, and we moved with no rug, so we felt we had some work to put in!
I had been dreaming of a brown leather couch for a while, and was excited about the opportunities it would bring for changing up pillows + throws season by season, so when I laid eyes on the Axel sofa I knew it was the one.. While I loved our orange couch (that now lives at my friend Bethany’s house) I found that having a bright colored couch could be very limiting in freshening up the space year by year. I made the bold (for me) decision to not make the room feel super warm colored, but instead gravitated toward a more bohemian and eclectic vibe.
BEFORE:
I opted to pair our leather sofa with a mid-century chair in an olive color, which makes such a statement right when you walk into the space. Because I felt the chair was a very masculine piece, I then paired it with a quite feminine rug to warm up the space a bit and make it feel more “me.” My favorite part, which I feel ties the entire room together, is this gorgeous overarching lamp. The mid-century coffee table also helps to lighten up the space, and I feel the marble top is an integral piece for color in the room.
I am very excited with how it turned out, and I love that it’s a mix of styles – a mid-century bohemian vintage wonderland! It feels very cozy, and is the most perfect spot to spend time as a family. Hudson loves the couch, and I love that he doesn’t sink into the cushions because the seat cushion is all connected. I also love the double layer on the coffee table, it’s perfect to store all of his books and puzzles at the end of the day when he goes to sleep! I am excited to use the space for years to come!
