Master Bedroom BEFORE + AFTER With West Elm

BEFORE:

If you remember our master bedroom in our old apartment, you can probably sympathize with us on our new master bedroom in this home. The positives were that we gained an entire home, which we’re so thankful for, but a huge negative was how tiny the master bedroom is here. Our home was built in 1954, so there wasn’t the same emphasis on having large walk-in closets and a spacious area to sleep – which we had in our previous place. We were very glad that our headboard fit the only wall that the bed could sit against, and from there we basically got rid of all of the furniture in our previous room including the side tables, the shoe ladder, and the desk. It all had to go somewhere else in our home, leaving our bedroom pretty empty here! We lived like this for months, until I finally got around to putting some attention toward the space for my sister series with West Elm.

I am so excited with how it turned out, and how freshened up it feels! I picked most of our furniture based on the measurements, and the idea that each piece fit a very specific space in the room. I knew that I wanted a very long dresser, and fell in love with this reclaimed wood 6-drawer dresser. The dresser I moved in from our previous home only had four drawers, and awkwardly fit this wall, and this one fits just right! I love that adding in this round mirror above it turned it into a lovely little space for me to get ready in.

Another solution we needed desperately was a space to house bags and shoes, since our closets are tiny. We had a bit of wall space in between both of our [tiny] closets, and this white bookshelf ended up being the perfect fit! I also love the contrast between the white of the dresser and the gold on the bookshelf. It looks even better than I envisioned it while ordering, which I am so happy about!

Eventually our plans are to add a dormer to the upstairs guest room, and add a bathroom and a walk-in closet to create a true master bedroom for us to live in, but for the next few years I feel so happy with this little space now! It’s organized, clean and the new pieces really add that extra something it was missing! Do you like how it came out?
