days off in the gables.

matt sent me this really interesting article written by isabel slone titled “fashion blogging is dead.” isabel used to write the blog hipster musings at the beginning of the fashion blogger era and i used to read her blog back in the day.

anyway, i thought it was a really great article with strong points, and it made me deeply think / wonder why i still blog. it isn’t for the free clothes (trust me). it’s definitely not for money, as my blog hardly makes me any income. i definitely don’t read as many blogs as i used to because of all of the reasons she listed in her article. but… i came to my own conclusion that i blog because i just really enjoy dressing up, and i love photography. i know i won’t blog forever, but i honestly cannot see myself losing the excitement of putting on a perfect (in-my-eyes) outfit for the day! during a sad or stressful week, nothing soothes me more than trying on fun outfits and thinking of all the beautiful color combinations living in my closet โ™ฅ i love all of the people i meet and have met along the way, but trust me when i say i NEVER started a blog for the reason of meeting people, nor did i think anyone would actually even read my blog. sometimes i still wonder if anyone actually reads it.

i think it is sad that blogging has veered so far off of the path of what it originally represented. sometimes i read back on my own content, and feel like my first year was my peak. but hopefully a few of us girls will stick around out of love for doing this, and there will always be new inspiration floating around the web. ๐Ÿ™‚ here’s some of mine.. a kitschy outfit for a day off. clothes are fun ๐Ÿ™‚

p.s. i got my haircuit, it’s so much less grungy now! =D

  • I'm off to read that article now! Sounds interesting but yeah, it's sad that the blogging world is so different now. I try not to let it get me down and keep doing what I do. I think I've personally become a better blogger over the years and 2014 is going to be my best year yet! Whether or not anyone actually reads it is another story, but I'm okay with doing it just for me and a few avid visitors. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Great socks and shoes!

  • Just blog the way you want to blog and there will be readers. Just because some blogs have become ad machines doesn't mean blogging is dead. Your blog is always enjoyable to me and I'll continue coming back to see what kinds of cute outfits yo come up with. I get inspiration for my own outfits from the blogs I read!

But anyway, I like this casual cute outfit. Those socks are adorable and I really love your gorgeous blouse.

  • Hmm I have mixed feelings about that article- it's definitely coming from a voice that's over her hobby. So it's hard for her to like it or see it in a positive light if she's done with that part of her life. I like to blog for the reason you do- it makes me feel more creative and playful with my clothes ๐Ÿ™‚

  • The fact that lots of new (teenage) bloggers has started their own blog to only become famous is very very sad. But the most awful thing is that they have begun to buy fake followers to reach the popularity they wanted.
Because of them, the nature of blogging is going away day by day.
Anyway I felt in love with your socks! ๐Ÿ™‚ โ™กโ™ก

  • such a cutie dog! You look pretty good ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • well I agree with you.
fashion blogs have become a major publicity source, its not organic anymore. I started my blog because I want to share a message, and I hope that if I keep going my voice will be heard… someday.

  • you look amazing <3 the colours are fab <3 and the socks…. OH LA LA <3

  • I DO read you! ๐Ÿ™‚
Well, I think everything evolves… I wrote a personal – private – blog for some years before writing the one I write since 2009, so I think it goes with me.

Anyway, what matters most is we don't lose the passion of what we do! No matter what others do.

  • Darling socks!

  • Well, I read blogs… I know. It's kind of weird. I went so long without posting on my blog… just got carried away by life I guess. I miss when blogs were just about seeing into people's lives.

ANYway– you look adorable as usual! Love those socks!

  • I know Isabel! We live in the same city and she and I both work at Worn Fashion Journal. I used to read her blog a long time ago as well. It's cool to see how far things travel! From chilly Toronto to the warmth of Miami.

  • Ive had these moments recently where I'm like, "why do I blog" and I realize I do it more because it's a diary for me and a fun past-time. I certainly don't do it for anything I get out of it as I don't really get anything either. I like looking back on my posts and seeing the fun outfit combinations I wore and recently I've been putting more day to day life pictures in so I can also remember great memories with my loved ones.

  • also, I'm sick of the "popular" "big" bloggers. I'm much more interested in reading down to earth real people's blogs.

  • Again, totally loving your socks. And this article sounds quite interesting, I'm off to go read it!
